CHUCK MANGIONE (1940-2023)

Chuck Mangione (born November 29, 1940 – December 22, 2023) was an American flugelhornist, trumpeter, and composer known for his warm, melodic jazz sound. Born in Rochester, New York, he studied at the Eastman School of Music and gained early experience playing with Art Blakey’s Jazz Messengers.

Mangione achieved widespread fame with his 1977 hit Feels So Good, a smooth jazz classic that became a crossover success. His music blended jazz, pop, and orchestral elements, often featuring rich arrangements and memorable melodies. Albums like Chase the Clouds Away (1975) and Children of Sanchez (1978) showcased his ability to create emotive and cinematic compositions.

Throughout his career, he collaborated with jazz greats such as Dizzy Gillespie and Maynard Ferguson. His work earned multiple Grammy Awards, and his live performances were celebrated for their energy and warmth.

Beyond his commercial success, Mangione’s music was featured in films and television, making his sound recognizable worldwide.
