FRANK VALDOR (1937-2013)

Frank Valdor, born on May 27, 1937, in Hamburg, Germany, was a prominent German bandleader and arranger celebrated for his vibrant party music during the 1960s and 1970s. Selling over 2.5 million records, he earned the title “King of Dynamic Party Sound” with his non-stop instrumental arrangements.

Raised by circus artist parents, Valdor debuted as a child prodigy playing trumpet and trombone. After studying music in Hamburg from 1953 to 1955, he toured with French orchestras and later worked as an arranger for German radio ensembles.

In the late 1960s, Valdor signed with Miller International, producing hits like Frank Valdor Goes Western (1971), which won a gold record. His discography boasts over 80 LPs, 10 singles, and 8 CDs, often featuring eye-catching covers with him alongside glamorous women.

Popular in Scandinavia and beyond, he founded Hippo Music and led his orchestra to international acclaim, including TV shows like Fiesta Tropical. Valdor’s career peaked with millions of sales and live performances, such as Live in Rio (1972).

He became a Swiss citizen in 1989 and passed away on August 5, 2013, leaving a legacy of infectious rhythms.
