Wolfgang Lindner (July 2, 1949 – March 11, 2008) was an Austrian musician, composer and orchestra leader celebrated for his contributions to entertainment music. Born in Austria, Lindner initially gained fame as the bandleader of the Wolfgang Lindner Band, a prominent ensemble in the German-speaking music scene. He is not to be confused with Wolfgang “Zabba” Lindner, a German drummer and composer.
Lindner’s career took off with his long-standing role as musical director of the popular TV show Musikantenstadl, where his band accompanied renowned artists, blending traditional folk with contemporary styles. His versatility shone through in his work across television, live performances, and recordings, collaborating with stars like Andy Borg and Stefan Mross.
A skilled drummer and arranger, Lindner endorsed Yamaha instruments, reflecting his professional stature. In 2005, due to health issues, he passed the leadership of his band to his son, Wolfgang Lindner Jr., who continued his legacy. Lindner’s compositions and arrangements, including signature tunes for TV programs, showcased his creative flair.
His influence extended beyond Austria, earning him a loyal following across Europe. Lindner died in 2008 at age 59, leaving behind a rich musical heritage rooted in entertainment and tradition, fondly remembered by fans and peers alike.
