ACOUSTIC ALCHEMY

Acoustic Alchemy is a British instrumental band known for their fusion of smooth jazz, new age, and world music. Formed in the early 1980s by guitarists Nick Webb (14 March 1954 – 5 February 1998)) and Simon James ((born 13 March 1954)), the group gained recognition with their debut album Red Dust & Spanish Lace (1987), which blended jazz, flamenco, and folk influences.

After James’ departure, Greg Carmichael (born 7 August 1953) ) joined Webb, shaping the band’s signature sound with a mix of steel-string and nylon-string acoustic guitars. Over the years, Acoustic Alchemy evolved, incorporating elements of rock, funk, and electronic music. Following Webb’s passing in 1998, Carmichael continued the project alongside guitarist Miles Gilderdale.

The band has released over a dozen albums, including Blue Chip (1989), AArt (2001), and Thirty Three and a Third (2018). Known for their intricate melodies and polished production, they have remained a staple of contemporary jazz radio and international tours.

With a career spanning four decades, Acoustic Alchemy has maintained a dedicated global fanbase, influencing modern jazz guitarists and instrumental ensembles. Their ability to blend diverse musical styles while maintaining a signature acoustic sound has made them a respected and enduring force in instrumental music.
