Steve Willaert (born May 23, 1961) is a renowned Belgian composer, arranger, musician and producer, celebrated primarily for his work in film and television scoring.
Beginning his career in the 1980s, Willaert composed music for Belgian radio and television shows, blending synthesizers, electronics and orchestral elements. In 1993, he released his solo album Musical Regards. His early film work included the score for the French movie Le Golden Boy (1996).
Willaert gained critical acclaim in 2003 when his score for the TV series Stille Waters earned him the prestigious Prix Italia and Plateauprijs awards. He has since composed for numerous Belgian and international productions, including series like Aspe, Katarakt, Vermist, Undercover, and Salamander, as well as films such as De Indringer (2005), De Hel van Tanger (2006), Het Vonnis (2013), Brabançonne (2014), Bumperkleef (2019) and many entries in the FC De Kampioenen franchise.
As an arranger and musical director, he has collaborated with artists including Will Tura, Axelle Red, Toots Thielemans, Zucchero, Youssou N’Dour and Helmut Lotti, and worked with orchestras like the London Philharmonic, Brussels Philharmonic and Prague Philharmonic.
Known for his versatile style incorporating ethnic instruments, electronics and classical orchestration, Willaert continues to be a leading figure in Belgian screen music.
